Financial
Planning Association ("FPA")
Former Career
Member: of the International Association of Financial Planners prior to its
merger with the ICFP to form the FPA.
The Financial
Planning Association (FPA) is a professional association, not a Membership
Organization, for those in the financial planning community. The FPA
believes that everyone needs objective advice to make informed financial
decisions and when seeking the advice of a financial planner, the planner
should be a CFP® Certificant.
By choice Paul
is no longer a Member of the FPA, finding that this organization, since
shortly after its formation from the ICFP/IAFP merger, ceased
acting as a representative body. The FPA fails its constituents by not having open
nominations of its US Board, nor elections or votes on matters of concern to its constituency.
Furthermore, it has not demonstrated its objectivity and independence from the CFP Board in matters dealing with the often divergent needs and concerns of
its stated preferred core constituency; namely, CFP® Certificants, and it
refuses to recognize any of the following equivalently qualified designations
of Financial
Planning: QFP, ChFC®, PFS, MSFS, or MS designees (the latter two with a concentrated
study in Financial Planning), thereby having the negative impact and effect of disenfranchising
the majority of qualified Financial Planners both nationally and
internationally.
